Fanfiction recommendation…
Today I found the fanfiction of Ikoma Uitukake. The stories are stand-alone, not a continuing series about the same characters, and they wander all over Rokugan rather than focusing on a particular clan. Needless to say, I have found them an enjoyable read, which is why I'm waving my internet arms and pointing.
More on the subject of L5R
I have found The Jade Hand again (I found it before several times, and then lost it). It's a fan site where a lot of fanfic writers post fiction, at least some of which shares the same universe and some characters. There is also a forum; it's a good way to locate the fiction.
Other concentrations of fic I have found:
Kyuden Ryu
The Crab Clan Archive
The Crane Clan, which also includes a forum; I think the fiction there is reposted from other sources.
(There's a lot of overlap, but I have yet to find the One True Archive which has everything.)
Also, I'm starting a campaign. I must be crazy.
Argh, bedtime now. Seriously.
Random L5R stuff…
L5R is currently my Shiniest Internet Thing.
I think I've told this to everyone in our weekly game, but Nancy Sauer (a.k.a. Daidoji Gisei) has recently become part of the official L5R story team, and is now writing official fiction. I have thus been sucked into the L5R forums, where the fiction is posted, and I'm trying to catch up on recent (and not-so-recent) historical events, so that I can actually understand the references.
Of invaluable assistance to the beginner fangirl is the fan-made L5R wiki.
Mmm, shiny.

I particularly recommend Planet of the Amazon Women (part 1, part 2); it’s awesome.
In other news: I have returned from HBD. My headache only went away this morning. I’m sure I’ve had sinus headaches at HBD before; I like to think that it’s the strong Divine Aura of Genadendal, but it’s probably just the dust and pollen. On at least one previous occasion of a horrible weekend-long HBD headache I did also go to bed at stupid o’clock the day before I left, so I don’t exactly have a large body of accurate data from which to draw conclusions.
This year there was a drive to produce more garb (SCA clothing) for Gold Key (the collection of communal costumes lent out to n00bs and visitors at events); particularly in larger sizes. I brought my old Singer and sewed stuff. We ended up with three tunics and three dresses, although some of them need to be finished off. Since playing around with my sewing machine is something I always mean to do but never end up doing, it was a fun and relaxing way to spend a large portion of the weekend.
In other other news: an edited version of Black Dogs, Ursula Vernon’s fantasy novel, is going to be published in an actual physical book (two, actually) early next year. I’m definitely getting it; I really liked it.
Unfortunately the original online version been taken down from its long-time home at Elfwood (not because of copyright concerns, but apparently after two of the three parts were deleted for having “profanity” in their descriptions. Huh). In the meantime, you can read the continuing amusing story of a romance between orc poet Celadon Toadstool and elven healer Sings-to-Trees, at the above LiveJournal address.
In closing, the humorous human interest segment: BOOM! goes the irony meter, as conservative parents complain about their daughter’s prescribed reading of Fahrenheit 451, and want to have it banned from the school curriculum.
