Non-specific holiday greeting

Happy non-specific holiday!

Here is a present, just for you: courtesy of Mr Sharpe, an evil word-association puzzle, Funny Farm. We were going to see Casino Royale, but it wasn't showing today. Boo.

It's a comic. About science and philosophy. It's surreal and bizarre, and I can't stop reading.

Art link!

Random link of the day: the Pants Press Blog, an art blog for a group of webcomic artists which includes Dylan Meconis (creator of Bite Me!).

Mouse count:
Live: 2
Dead: 1

Edit: we went to see Brick at the Cinema Nouveau. It’s pretty good: a high school movie with film noir jargon and conventions, which never drops out of character. Go see it!

Thank you, kitty; it's just what I've always wanted.

Not to be outdone, Mercedes brought us a dead mouse. We came home quite late; maybe she thought we weren't going to let her in the house without a toll fee.

We had dinner and played card games with Andrea and Steven; the food was tasty and the games were fun.

Shake the feed reader and see if they'll fight!

I have come to the conclusion that the blogs I read all secretly talk to each other when I'm not looking. Or at least I experienced a bizarre level of co-incidental interconnectedness on Wednesday. An artist and writer I like is talking about fanfiction, and I recognise many of the names commenting as members of various fandom communities, and they're recommending fiction by some of my favourite fanfiction writers. A community for making fun of stupid internet arguments linked to a fight over a metaphorical description of the way the English language appropriates foreign words, which was spawned by an LJ icon paraphrasing a famous quote by a guy who posts on the USENET group for written SF, who responded in his blog to another guy's post about the suspension of disbelief and overly critical analysis of TV shows, which I earlier found on the blog of a certain famous TOR editor (and her husband), who is cited in the discussion about fanfiction on the artist's blog as someone who has spoken favourably about fanfiction in the past… and one of the people frequently commenting on the blog of the guy from USENET is a writer who also wrote some of the Legend of the Five Rings fanfiction which I recommended here.

See, that was just weird.

Also, in the middle of the night Noether brought in a mouse, and we spent a comical (but not at the time) hour or so moving heavy furniture around and trying to chase it out (having given up on actually trying to capture it pretty quickly). It eventually ran away, apparently with all bits intact (although it was covered in the dust kittens of a thousand cupboards). I'm glad its horrifying ordeal didn't give it a heart attack, and I hope it had only actually been licked by the cat, and not bitten.

Edit: Ahaha, I almost forgot! Yesterday was my last day at my old job. I'm on holiday until January, and then I'm starting work for the company Hodgestar works for — this will involve working from home, and learning python. Hooray! And my old company was kind enough to give me an Outer Limits voucher as a parting gift, so I see lots of lovely comics (or possibly Hellboy figurines) in my future.
